Er ist der Pionier des Synthie Pop. Viele verbinden ihn mit den 80er Jahren und Hits wie „Are Friends Electric?“ und „Cars“. Was einige jedoch nicht wissen, Gary Numan hat stätig weiter Musik gemacht und Anfang September sein bereits 22. Album namens „Savage – Songs From A Broken World“ veröffentlicht. Produziert wurde „Savage“ von Ade Fenton, mit welchem Gary Numan bereits zum vierten Mal zusammen arbeitete. Die Scheibe stieg in die UK Charts von null auf Platz zwei ein. Als Künstler wird er in Deutschland leider ziemlich unterschätzt. Dabei verpassen die Deutschen hierbei eine Menge. Tiefgehende Texte, fantastischen Kompositionen, gepaart mit Rock, Synthesizer-Einflüssen mit einem Hauch von Industrial-Gothic. Im Rahmen seiner „European Savage Tour 2017“ kam er leider nur für zwei Konzerte nach Deutschland. Eines fand in der Essigkabrik Köln statt, das Zweite am vergangenen Donnerstag im Columbia Theater Berlin. Es waren viele englische Fans angereist und vorerst sah es nicht so aus, als würde das Columbia Theater wirklich voll werden. Kurz vor Beginn der Show war es allerdings dann sehr voll geworden. Pünktlich um 20:00 Uhr kam Jayce Lewis mit seiner Band zum Einheizen auf die Bühne. Er ist ein Solokünstler aus Bridgend / South Wales, macht Electronic Rock und erinnert mit seiner Bühnenoptik leicht an Marilyn Manson. Sein neuestes Werk heißt: „Million Part 1“, woraus er auch einige Songs zum Besten gab. Als die ersten Töne des Songs „Ghost Nation“ aus dem Numan Album Savage ertönten, waren die Fans vollkommen aus dem Häuschen. Gary Numan erschien in einem Wüsten Outfit. Dies ist eine Anlehnung zu seinem in der Wüste bei Joshua Tree in Kalifornien gedrehten Musikvideo zu „My Name Is Ruin“, der ersten Singleauskopplung aus „Savage“, in dem seine elfjährige Tochter Persia die Backvocals singt. In einigen der Savage Shows war sie bei diesem Lied auch mit auf der Bühne, während der Deutschlandauftritte allerdings nicht. Numan rockte und wirbelte über die Bühne, wie ein 25 jähriger. Im März diesen Jahres wurde er 59 Jahre alt und kann auf eine bereits 40 jährige Musikkarriere zurückblicken. Die Setlist bot eine große Bandbreite durch viele seine Veröffentlichungen. Vom aktuellen Silberling „Savage“ ertönte „Ghost Nation“, „Bed Of Thorns“ , „Pray For The Pain You Serve“, „My Name Is Ruin“, „When The World Comes Apart“ und „Mercy“. Gary Numan kündigte an, bereits nächstes Jahr wieder nach Deutschland zu kommen.
