Ich hatte die große Ehre das ‚The Post War‘ Debüt-Album ‚Anecdoche‘ vor seiner Veröffentlichung zu hören. Mit den ersten Singleauskopplungen ‚Bend‘, ‚Half Light‘, ‚Stonefish‘ und ‚Avalon‘ konnte ich bereits erste Eindrücke gewinnen. Schon sehr lange habe ich dem Moment entgegen gefiebert, endlich das gesamte Album hören zu dürfen. ‚The Post War‘ (Erik Scott – Vocals/Guitar, Warren Thompson – Guitar, Kelly Didmon – Bass und Kelly Voelkel – Drums) stammen aus Vancouver in Kanada und gingen bereits 2012 mit dem Grammy Award prämierten Produzenten/Mixer David Bottrill ins Studio, um die Arbeit an ihrer EP ‚H‘ aufzunehmen. Botthrills vorherige Arbeit mit Peter Gabriel, Tool, Muse und vielen anderen Musikern war von großem Wert und spielte für den kreativen Austausch eine große Rolle. Nach längerem Überlegen beschloss das Quartett, ihre Vision zu erweitern und eine Full-Lengh Platte aufzunehmen. Dadurch enstand ‚Anecdoche‘ mit insgesamt zehn Tracks.
Der Frontmann Erik Scott hat eine sehr gefühlvolle, faccettenreiche Stimme mit dem gewissen Etwas, die in manchen Nuancen sehr an den verstorbenen Sänger Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave) erinnert.
‚Bend‘ ist eine grungige Rock-Nummer, die die weit gefächerten soften und zugleich auch kraftvollen Vocals des Sängers wiederspiegelt. Eingeleitet wird der Song durch ein Gitarren-Solo. Die Lyrics sind sehr tiefgehend und handeln höchstwahrscheinlich von Kriegsgeschehnissen: „Lead by his intent, and incandescent mortar shells, This is how it is, He burns the air and leaves you cold, So bend my will down, When heavy carbons are steady now“ Das Musikvideo zu Bend hat allein über 190000 Klicks auf YouTube.
Der Track ‚Exile‘ ist die nächste Auskopplung aus dem Debüt und erscheint am 15. Februar 2022. Im Gegensatz zu den anderen Liedern auf dem Album hat ‚Exile‘ Blues-Einflüsse, die mit den Grunge-Elementen verschmelzen. Das Ganze gipfelt sich in einem energiegeladenen Refrain, der kraftvoll und voller Leidenschaft gesungen wird.
Der Titeltrack ‚Anecdoche‘ ist ein Instrumental-Song, der einen zum Zurücklehnen und zum Abdriften in andere Welten anregt.
‚Low Season‘ formt das Schlusslicht und ist gleichzeitig mit 7:35 Minuten der längste Part dieser Platte. Langsames und schnelleres Gitarrenspiel verbinden sich mit seichtem und teilweise auch melancholischem Gesang. Beim Hören des Songs wirkt es manchmal so als befände man sich in einem Traum.
‚Anecdoche‘ vereint Grunge-Elemente der 90er Jahre und vergisst dabei nicht ihre eigene Note des 21. Jahrhunderts mit einzubringen. Hier findet sich ein perfektes Zusammenspiel von tiefgründiger Lyrik, Poetik und Songwriting. Die Platte ist auf Ihre eigene Art ein Meisterwerk und für jeden Grunge- und Rock Fan ein absolutes Muss.

I had the great honour to listen to ‚The Post War‘ debut album ‚Anecdoche‘ before its release. With the first singles ‚Bend‘, ‚Half Light‘, ‚Stonefish‘ and ‚Avalon‘ I could already get first impressions. For a long time I have been looking forward to the moment when I could finally listen to the whole album. The Post War (Erik Scott – Vocals/Guitar, Warren Thompson – Guitar, Kelly Didmon – Bass and Kelly Voelkel – Drums) are based in Vancouver, Canada and went into the studio with Grammy Award winning producer/mixer David Bottrill back in 2012 to record their EP ‚H‘. Bottrill’s previous work with Peter Gabriel, Tool, Muse and many other musicians was of great value and played a big role in the creative exchange. After much deliberation, the quartet decided to expand their vision and record a full-lengh record. This created Anecdoche with a total of ten tracks.
The frontman Erik Scott has a very soulful, multifaceted voice with that very special touch, which in some nuances is very reminiscent of the late singer Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave).
‚Bend‘ is a grungy rock tune that reflects the singer’s wide-ranging soft as well as powerful vocals. The song is introduced by a guitar solo. The lyrics are very profound and most likely deal with war events: „Lead by his intent, and incandescent mortar shells, This is how it is, He burns the air and leaves you cold, So bend my will down, When heavy carbons are steady now“ The music video for Bend has over 190000 clicks on YouTube on its own.
The track ‚Exile‘ is the next single from the debut and will be released on February the 15th 2022. In contrast to the other songs on the album, ‚Exile‘ has blues influences that merge with the grunge elements. The whole thing culminates in an energetic chorus, which is sung powerfully and full of passion.
The title track ‚Anecdoche‘ is an instrumental song that encourages you to sit back and drift off into other worlds.
‚Low Season‘ forms the final light and, at 7:35 minutes, it is also the longest part of this record. Slow and fast guitar playing is combined with soft and sometimes melancholic vocals. When listening to the song, it sometimes seems as if you are in a dream.
‚Anecdoche‘ combines grunge elements of the 90s and doesn’t forget to bring in their own 21st century touch. There is a perfect interplay of profound lyrics, poetics and songwriting. The record is a masterpiece in its own way and an absolute must for every grunge and rock fan.
