„Empathy Test“ wurde von Isaac Howlett und Adam Relf, die sich bereits seit ihrer Kindheit kennen, 2013 ins Leben gerufen. Inspiriert wurden sie dabei von 90er Jahre Bands mit Gitarreneinflüßen, Dance Musik aus dem Untergrund und Soundtracks aus den 80er Jahren. Das Line up besteht aktuell aus Isaac Howlett (vocals / songwriting). Adam Relf (composition / production),  Christina Lopez (live drums) und Oliver Marson (live keyboards).

Nach den ersten zwei Alben „Losing Touch“ und „Safe From Harm“ in 2017, veröffentlicht die britische Band „Empathy Test“ am 22. Mai 2020 ihr drittes Album „Monsters“ mit insgesamt zehn Tracks. Der gleichnamige Song „Monsters“ ist Opener des Albums und besticht durch klare, intensive Synth-Klänge. Das Lied startet ruhig und wird dann durch Drums zum Leben erweckt. Beim ersten Hören durchdringt einen sofort die sanfte, gefühlsbetonte Stimme Isaac Howletts und verursacht Gänsehaut. Das „Monsters“ Musikvideo wurde von Fans finanziell unterstützt, vom Direktor Calum Macdiarmid gedreht und ist in der Kategorie „Most Bizzare“ bei den „Berlin Music Video Awards 2020“ nominiert.

In „Empty Handed“ hört man den Seelen- und Herzschmerz deutlich in der Stimme Howletts, als würde er sprichwörtlich mit seinen Lyrics „You can try and help me, You could drown me gently, You could tell me all of the things that, I want you to say“ verschmelzen.

„Stop“ hat eine düstere, dunkle Unternote und trägt einen Hauch von Melancholie mit sich. Isaac Howletts Gesang wechselt zwischen höheren und tieferen Stimmfarben. „Stop“  bedient sich musikalisch an dem Synthie-Pop der 80er Jahre.

„Fear Of Disappearing“ ist eine Up-Tempo Nummer, die sehr gut tanzbar ist, allerdings ein trauriges Thema behandelt. „Tell me how many people do you really know? How long will it be before they go? I don’t know…It’s a low, lonely time to be alive“. Wen kennen wir eigentlich in unserem Leben wirklich richtig? Oft fühlen wir uns einsam und unverstanden. Dieses Lied weist lyrisch noch eine weitere Deutungsaspekte auf und birgt einige Parallelen zur derzeitigen Corona Krise. 

„Empathy Test“ ist mit ihrer dritten Platte ein echtes Synthie-Pop Meisterwerk gelungen.  Wer die Band live hören möchte, hat ab September 2020 die Gelegenheit dazu. Die Gruppe geht im Herbst auf Deutschland Tour.

„Empathy Test“ was founded in 2013 by Isaac Howlett and Adam Relf, who have known each other since their childhood. They were inspired by 90’s bands with guitar influences, underground dance music and soundtracks from the 80’s. The line up currently consists of Isaac Howlett (vocals / songwriting). Adam Relf (composition / production), Christina Lopez (live drums) and Oliver Marson (live keyboards).

After the first two albums „Losing Touch“ and „Safe From Harm“ in 2017, the British band „Empathy Test“ will release their third album „Monsters“ on May 22nd, 2020, with a totally ten tracks. The song of the same name „Monsters“ is the album’s opener and fascinates with its clear, intense synth sounds. The song starts quietly and is then brought to life by drums. At the first listening of Isaac Howletts gentle, emotional voice immediately impresses you and causes goose bumps. The „Monsters“ music video was financially supported by fans, shot by director Calum Macdiarmid and is nominated in the category „Most Bizzare“ at the „Berlin Music Video Awards 2020“.

In „Empty Handed“ you can clearly hear the soul- and heartbreak in Howletts vocals, as if he were literally merging with his lyrics „You can try and help me, You could drown me gently, You could tell me all of the things that, I want you to say“.

„Stop“ has a dark, gloomy undertone and carries a touch of melancholy with it. Isaac Howletts vocals alternate between higher and lower vocal colors. „Stop“ musically uses the synthie-pop of the 80s.

„Fear Of Disappearing“ is an up-tempo number, which is very danceable, but deals with a sad topic. „Tell me how many people do you really know? How long will it be before they go? I don’t know…It’s a low, lonely time to be alive“ Who do we really know in our lives? We often feel lonely and misunderstood. This song has lyrically more interpretative aspects and contains some parallels to the current Corona crisis.

„Empathy Test“ has succeeded with their third record a real synth-pop masterpiece.  Those who want to hear the band live, will have the opportunity to do this in September 2020. The band will go on tour in Germany in autumn.
