,,The Black Room“ ist die erste Singleauskopplung aus dem kommenden zweiten IAMWARFACE Album. Ich darf hier exklusiv das Gehiemnis lüften und verlauten lassen, dass die nächste IAMWARFACE Platte ,,Synesthesia“ heißen wird und voraussichtlich im September diesen Jahres auf den Musikmarkt kommt. ,,Synesthesia“ bedeutet zum Beispiel, dass jemand Musik hört, aber zu dieser eine Farbe sieht. Oder diese Person hört einen Namen oder ein Wort und ordnet diesem eine Farbe zu. Sänger und Songwriter Matt Warneford verriet mir, dass jeder Song für ihn eine Farbe besitzt und er diesen damit assoziiert.

Das Album ist nicht das einzig Neue in der Band, sondern es gab auch einige Umstrukturierungen innerhalb der Besetzung. Aus dem Quintett wurde ein Trio – Als einziger fester Bestandteil steht Bandgründer Matt Warneford wie ein Fels in der Brandung, unterstützt von Eric BC Tape am Bass und Henning Brand am Schlagzeug.

,,The Black Room“ startet schon mit einer frischen, lockeren aber auch schnellen Dynamik. Auch die rockigen und elektronischen Elemente, die für den IAMWARFACE Sound typisch sind, sind wieder zu erkennen. Der legendäre Virgin Radio Moderator Eddie Temple Morris gab ihrem Sound vor einiger Zeit den Namen ,,Rocktronica“. Ab 2:44 zeigt sich der ruhige Part des Tracks, der wahrscheinlich die Stille im ,,The Black Room“ wieder geben soll. Der Song gewinnt innerhalb der ‚ruhigen Phase‘ aber wieder durch electronische-Klänge und Drums an Fahrt und Matt Warneford fragt am Ende der Bridge: ,,Just ride it , just ride it, just ride it, just ride, what am I? In the black room!“ Hier kommen wieder Matt Warnefords Entertainer-Qualitäten zum Vorschein, die ich schon bei der ersten Platte ,,Year Of The Dragon“ und in Live-Videos auf YouTube entdeckt habe. Gefühlvoll, mitreißend und voller Hingabe singt er hier wie auch bei all seinen anderen Liedern aus seinem tiefsten Herzen und seiner Seele. Die Single gibt am Ende noch einmal Voll-Power und entfaltet seine harte, rockige Seite.

Sänger Matt Warneford schreibt seine Texte meist so, dass es mehrere Interpretationsmöglichkeiten gibt. Den Text interpretiere ich insofern, dass es um ein Thema geht, dass einige von uns sicherlich kennen. Unsere Gedanken sind leer und wir können keinen klaren Gedanken mehr fassen. Wir starren auf den Computerbildschirm und sind Sklave des Systems. Wir möchten am liebsten flüchten in eine Welt, in der wir tun und lassen können was wir möchten und sein können wie wir wollen. Einfach ausgelassen und frei von Regeln und dem System. Ich denke, das soll der ,,The Black Room“ in diesem Falle darstellen. Im Grunde unser tiefsten Bedürfnisse wollen wir doch alle frei und ohne aufgezwungenen Regeln leben können.

IAMWARFACE haben meiner Meinung nach sehr großes Potenzial für einen internationalen Durchbruch und Karriere. Also spitzt eure Ohren und hört in die Musik von IAMWARFACE rein.

,,The Black Room“ is the first single from the upcoming second IAMWARFACE album. I am allowed to exclusively reveal that the next IAMWARFACE record will be called ,,Synesthesia“ and will probably be released in September of this year. ,,Synesthesia“ means, for example, that someone hears music but sees a colour with it. Or this person hears a name or a word and assigns a colour to it. Singer and songwriter Matt Warneford told me that every song has a colour for him and he associates it with it.

The album is not the only new thing in the band, there has also been some restructuring within the line-up. The quintet became a trio – as the only permanent member, band founder Matt Warneford stands like a rock, supported by Eric BC Tape on bass and Henning Brand on drums.

,,The Black Room“ starts with a fresh, relaxed but also fast dynamic. The rock and electronic elements that are typical for the IAMWARFACE sound are also recognisable. The legendary Virgin Radio presenter Eddie Temple Morris gave their sound the name ,,Rocktronica“ some time ago. From 2:44 the quiet part of the track shows up, which is probably meant to reflect the silence in ,,The Black Room“. Within the ‚quiet phase‘, however, the song gains speed again through electronic sounds and drums and Matt Warneford asks at the end of the bridge: ,,Just ride it, just ride it, just ride it, just ride, what am I? In the black room!“ Here again Matt Warneford’s entertainer qualities come to the fore, which I already discovered on the first record ,,Year Of The Dragon“ and in live videos on YouTube. Emotionally, rousing and full of dedication, he sings here as well as in all his other songs from his deepest heart and soul. The single gives full power at the end and unfolds his hard, rocking side.

Singer Matt Warneford usually writes his lyrics in such a way that there are several possible interpretations. I interpret the lyrics in that they deal with a theme that some of us surely know. Our minds are blank and we can’t get a clear thought. We stare at the computer screen and are slaves to the system. We would like to escape into a world where we can do what we want and be what we want. Just let loose and free from rules and the system. I think that’s what „The Black Room“ is supposed to represent in this case. At the bottom of our deepest needs, we all want to live freely and without imposed rules.

In my opinion, IAMWARFACE have huge potential for an international breakthrough and career. So prick up your ears and listen to the music of IAMWARFACE.
